yoga and wellness.

what is yoga?

Yoga (pronounced yo-gh) means "union". It is a lifestyle, a path to liberation, a path to oneself. The physical practice and breathwork aspect of yoga are most commonly practiced, and have incredible benefits. Asana and pranayama practice over time can lead to increased strength and flexibility, more energy, better cardiovascular health, increased focus, higher self esteem, and many more health benefits. Other aspects of yoga such as ethics, philosophy, history, yogic diet, and lifestyle are not taught as much, but are very significant when following the path of yoga.

Hatha yoga is a traditional form of yoga asana practice. Ha, meaning sun, and tha, meaning moon, come together to create a practice which balances masculine and feminine energy. It is said that the first hatha yoga class was taught by Lord Shiva to his consort Goddess Parvati.

Yin yoga is a slow, relaxing style of movement. This practice involves holding asanas for longer periods of time, but getting deeper stretches and focusing on releasing stress held in the body. Both yin and hatha involve aligning breath with movement and using breath work throughout the practice.

Anyone can follow the path of yoga and practice as well. It is really for people of all ages, body types, gender identities, and ethnic backgrounds. Yoga can be a helpful healing tool for those who have experienced trauma as well.

what is reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for healing. It promotes stress reduction and relaxation in the body. Rei can be interpreted as universal, meaning that it is present everywhere. Ki means life energy, this is the same as Chi, Prana, or Ti. Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui in March 1922 and is a technique that has now been practiced for many generations.

Traditional reiki is administered by the practitioner placing their hands on or over someone with the intention of giving a healing session. Crystal reiki is a technique that uses the energetic powers of specific crystals to target specific blockages. Reiki can be beneficial for stress reduction, relaxation, healing, and can promote energetic balance. It is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing. Like yoga, this is also a practice which is open to all.

“I’m so fortunate I had the chance to attend a class with Hasha & I can’t wait to attend future ones! Her passion for wellness and caring for others drives her ability to keep the class both engaging and informative. She creates such a warm & welcoming community within the classroom: from the pace of the class, ambiance, and her overall attentiveness to each student, I think it’s a great opportunity for both beginners to yoga and experienced individuals alike. I highly recommend taking a class with Hasha if you’re looking for a great intro to yoga, a moment to slow down and center yourself after a long week, or even a chance to meet a compassionate wellness instructor.” -Sydney L.
